Car buying is not a task to be taken lightly. The cost of a new car equals almost what most parents paid for their first home. It's imperative to do behind the scenes research to ensure you get a great deal.

How to Buy a New Car in 10 Steps

1. Do not be in a hurry

Car dealers can detect the scent of desperation a mile away! If you are totally without transportation, rent a vehicle until you find the right car. If you rush your purchase, you will usually end up on the bad end of the deal.

2. Research the price

You can uncover the typical retail cost of a specific make and model right on the internet. With a little extra research, you can discover the wholesale cost as well. These two pieces of information give you an edge when it comes to negotiation.

3. Bargain for lower price

It's best to work toward a win-win situation with the car salesperson. They need to make some money on the deal, and you want to pay a fair price. You can often negotiate a price that is $500 above dealer cost, or about 20% off the sticker price. Make sure you take your calculator with you when car hunting.

4. Reduce the customs

You can often order a car with *custom* option choices. This could save you hundreds of dollars. You might wait a couple of weeks, but why pay for options that you do not need?

5. Get at trial

Always check with the dealership to see if you can return the car if you do not like it. Many dealerships now offer this option. Some dealerships will give you a three day trial period in which to try the car.

6. Choose the right time

It is a good idea to wait until the end of the month to go car hunting. Salespersons who want to meet a certain quota will be eager to strike a deal.

7. Research before trade in

Knowing the value of your old car makes it easier to negotiate a better price for it. Try not to talk about a trade-in possibility until you get a purchase price. Sometimes this is difficult, as most salespeople will ask upfront about a trade in.

I took my car to one lot, and was told the trade in value was $1,500. Another dealership said they would give me $4,000 for the same car! So do your research to make sure you receive a fair price on your used vehicle. Stick to your guns when it comes to getting the value of your trade-in, especially if you've had your car serviced regularly.

8. Be careful with service contract

A service contract will likely be brought into the negotiation. Most consumer information shows no need to buy an extra contract on a new car, as it's not likely a problem will occur during the first months of use.

Whatever you do, always read the fine print of any contract before signing it. Ask questions about what certain phrases mean if and when you do not understand something.

9. Ensure you understand

Also, just because a car is brand new doesn't mean you should buy it without asking questions. New cars can land in the lemon category as well as used ones. Keep on your toes during the negotiation process. You will enjoy both getting a new car, AND creating a win-win situation for yourself and the dealer.

10. Buy it

That's right, after all the reading and considerations, it's time to buy it. You could browse the Cheap New Cars from Cars.apmart.com and enjoy exploring without any distraction from the dealer. Speaking of "cheap" it's actually inexpensive, discount price for the same type of cars. You could also ask the seller and everything. Take your time.

There are a lot of perks associated with car shopping online with CARS.apmart.com, including the buyer being able to set the price. In addition, automobile insurance is more affordable on used cars and, with an auction, the buyer pays in full and there is no hassle of a monthly payment. If you do plan to shop for your next car on CARS.apmart.com, take a moment to consider the following tips to help get you started on the road to car shopping success.

1. Car Insurance

First and foremost, check with your car insurance.company before deciding to purchase a specific car on CARS.apmart.com or anywhere else. If the cost of car insurance is a major deciding factor, then you will want to be clear about the costs before you.commit to purchasing.

In addition, it may be helpful to know that SUVs carry a higher insurance cost than that of a car. With that being said, the cost of insurance will be less on a used car than if that same model were purchased new.

2. CarFax Report

Request a CarFax report from the seller and, if they do not have one, request the VIN number so that you may obtain a copy directly. This report is something that every potential car owner needs to have. Why? Because it contains the number of previous owners that a particular car has had, information regarding whether or not the car has ever been involved in a flood or other accident and whether or not the title is clear.

There is also more information detailing a car's history included, which is why no automobile should ever be purchased without a CarFax report.

3. Kelly Blue Book

Before deciding that your car of choice is the deal of a lifetime, take a moment to research it's value according to Kelly Blue Book. This company is one of the most respected in the industry and instantly provides new or used car values directly from their website. After entering specific information relating to a car, individuals will receive an instant value assessment according to the information provided. This tool will help all potential car owners to find out whether or not a deal is too good to be true or just not too good at all.

4. Fuel Mileage

Take a moment to consider the car's fuel mileage. With gasoline prices what they are, it is important to think about how many miles you will get from one gallon of gasoline. The more mileage you have per gallon, the less you will end up spending in gasoline. This is definitely something to think about!

5. Car Mileage

When shopping for cars on CARS.apmart.com, take special notice of the mileage. This is a good indication of how much life the car has left in it or whether you are buying a car that has seen it's best days. A great number of cars on CARS.apmart.com have very low mileage, but others are well over 100,000.

As a final thought to shopping for cars on CARS.apmart.com, take a moment to make sure that the car you ultimately select is one that will best fit your lifestyle. If you have a large family, for instance, a .compact car probably isn't the best choice. You will need additional space to make sure that everyone is.comfortable and to make it ideal for long road trips. At the same time, a single person may be more than happy in a smaller car because of the simple fact that they use much less gasoline than an SUV or similar automobile. When shopping for cars, either new or used, it's all about lifestyle and which one best fits yours.

Buying a car is not that easy. People need to do a lot of research about the cars they are offered before they can make a decision. Often people buy cars based on the brand of their choice. This article explain the five essential steps you need to do when buying a car.

Most people do not enjoy buying a car. A survey conducted by CNN revealed that 75% of people would rather visit a dentist than face visiting a car dealership. It's not that people don't want a car - it's just that there are so many pitfalls to negotiate and not everyone can be sure of the right steps to take. Here are a few points to keep in mind to make the process easier.

1. Ask questions, lots of questions.

Try to ask sensible questions that will enable you to base your decisions on solid ground. But don't be afraid to just ask and only stop when all your concerns have been properly addressed. Example of questions to ask:

How long has the car been used?

Do you like that car? People who like their car tends to take care of it better.

Is it comfortable? Comfortable car is better than uncomfortable one. Isn't it?

Is it the air conditioner still working? Yeah, would you mind driving in a hot car?

Is it still running? This seem to be a funny question but the fact is that online car buying is not easy. People might sell broken car. Most of them are honest, but you should always be aware.

2. Do not let emotion drive you.

Pretty cars with all the bells and whistles can blind you to the truth. More often than not you will end up paying more than you need to if you buy with emotion. Be impartial and see the car for what it is and not what you may have fallen in love with.

However, you should consider to buy the car you like if it's in good condition. The more you like it, the more you drive it.

3. Know exactly what you want

Before you put a single foot inside the dealership door, you should Know exactly what you want. An open mind can be easily manipulated, and usually not in your favor.

Use brochures, etc, beforehand to determine exactly what you want within your budget, and don't be swayed by smooth talk.

4. Talk to the dealer about the price

It's not about the payments. Dealers who keep referring to the "easy" payments could be avoiding the issue of overall price, and you need to know why.

Do your homework and you will know exactly what price fits into a payment plan to fit your budget. But if you focus on payment, you may end up paying more than you bargained for.

5. Know when to make a decision

You should know when the time has come to make a decision. That decision could be to walk away, or it could be to close the deal. You should constantly monitor how you feel about the offer being made to you.

If it all feels right, then stay with it and see it through. But if you get even just a tiny twinge of something not quite right, be prepared to walk away.

What's next?

Buying a car is not always easy. It's not something most of us do very often and we all want to make the best use of our money. But with sensible and careful planning, and an awareness of the five points above, you can buy the exact right car for you at the exact right price for you.

Happy searching

Looking for an affordable and "reliable" used car?

Many sellers on eBay motors claim that their used vehicle is a reliable one. This means to some of these sellers that their used vehicle can reliably make it off the sales lot, but who knows after that... Buyers of course have different ideas as to what is considered reliable.

So, what is an affordable and reliable car?

Is it a car for $1500 that lasts a month without any major problems or is it a $2000 car that has been in an accident or flood but runs like new (for today)?

Time to use some common sense here:

A new car is not even a reliable car in many cases. It just happens that the manufacturers warranty makes it seem reliable when the issues that it develops are not subtracted from the customer's pocket.

Consider this:

An average new car payment costs $300/month plus full coverage insurance. An average new car lease might be less, but you will pay for mileage in excess of 12000/year.

So, we are at $250/month for a lease or $300/month for a purchase. (Don't forget to add full coverage insurance which is required in both instances).

Now, how long does it take to get to your $1500 budget? Roughly 5 months.

Here is my point:

Wouldn't you be much better off saving your $1500 for a "dependable ride" for instead a vehicle that you can in all probability drive for more than 5 months without any major problems? YES!!!

The solution begins not at $1500 or $2000, but instead at around $4000. Just remember, you get what you pay for. Reliability costs more than the $1500 or $2000 you are wanting to spend. There are some sellers on eBay that will make the most of your money and some that won't. Research your potential purchase on KBB.com, NADA.com, Edmunds.com.

Check the car auction listings carefully. Search for the model and years that you are interested in and sort by mileage. This will give you some insight as to whether or not you are choosing a vehicle that might be to the end of its expected life for its particular engine/transmission.

Some engines do have better performance and reliability than others. Two domestic ones that have a good track record are the GM 3.8 or 3800 and the Ford Duratech 3.0 24 valve (careful---they have a standard 3.0 12 valve too that is not rated as high.) A few to avoid are the Chrysler 2.7 and also many of the domestic 4 cylinders. Honda, Toyota, and Nissan routinely show up on eBay listings with high mileage. This means that they have a good power plant also. And, of course there is BMW and Mercedes.

Research is the key to stretching your dollar when searching for an affordable and reliable used car. Have a great day and happy car hunting!!!

Interested in buying this vehicle? Use this checklist to help you make a safe and successful purchase.

Here are the most important things to be taken care of when you are buying a car online.

Before you buy

How to buy

What to do when you win

1. Before you buy

Read the vehicle description -- carefully!

Read the seller's description carefully and contact the seller with questions before you go to examine the vehicle. Look for the "E-mail the Seller" link at the top of the listing.

Learn how you are protected

The Vehicle Purchase Protection program helps protect your vehicle purchase against fraud. VPP is available for all eligible transactions completed on the eBay Motors site.

eBay provides up to $50,000 in free Vehicle Purchase Protection for this vehicle.

Read the vehicle history report

Check the vehicle's history before you buy, and protect yourself from hidden problems. See a sample report. To order a report, go to History Report.

Review the seller's feedback

The seller's feedback rating is a valuable tool to learn about the positives and negatives of a seller's transactional history. When buying a vehicle, look for a seller with positive feedback and take the time to read comments from other buyers to get a sense of the seller's reliability.

Contact the seller

It is important to contact the seller and have your questions answered to your satisfaction before you make an offer or bid on a vehicle. Use the E-mail the Seller link at the top of the listing.

2. How to buy

Find out what the vehicle is worth

Before you make an offer, find out what this vehicle is worth. Go to Price Research to learn what similar vehicles recently sold for on eBay Motors.

Get information on title transfer, registration, and taxes

Contact the seller about the status of the vehicle's title, and visit your state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Web site to get information on the processes and potential costs associated with title transfer, registration, and taxes.

Calculate monthly payments

If you're interested in a loan, you can calculate monthly payments and get current interest rates in Financing. Offers are legally binding, so be sure you can pay the amount in full or have allowed enough time to secure financing before you make an offer.

Estimate shipping or transportation costs

If the seller isn't local, review how much it will cost to ship or pick up (by flying or driving) the vehicle in Shipping.

Make a bid or purchase

You are ready to purchase this vehicle. Learn more in Buying on eBay Motors.

3. What to do when you win

Pay the final amount

Instructions on how to pay for the vehicle will be provided in the listing, or you can contact the seller directly. For your protection, never use instant cash wire transfers such as Western Union & MoneyGram.

Arrange pick up or shipping

It is standard practice on eBay Motors for the buyer to make the arrangements and pay the costs associated with picking up (by flying or driving) or shipping the vehicle.

Transfer title and pay taxes

You're almost done! The last step is to complete the title paperwork and pay any required taxes on the vehicle. This information varies by state and vehicle type so contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office for more information.
